Sime~Gen Roleplaying on IRC: Snake River Dam Scenario

Episode #163: Three-Wheeler (5/10/01)

Sayward reaches into the pile of rags for another piece of red. She is once again confined in the infirmary and with a guard no less!

Sayward winces as her reinjured pelvis reminds her that she is not so young as she used to be and she can't do fool stunts like trying to get down to the construction site in a jerry rigged wheel barrow.

Sayward smiles to herself -- well the the wheel barrow wasn't jerry rigged just her mobile traction device.

Sayward has had a lot of time to figure out where her design went wrong and she is convinced that she could do it right this time. The channels, however have refused to even hear of it and if she even makes to move at all without four people in attendance they yell at her.

Sayward is desperate to get back to work and away from her guard, a very nice Gen lady whose husband is a channel and who is very, very diligent in watching over her. She can't even scratch without someone making note of it.

Jeniard carries a clipboard and Sayward's file as he makes his way down the clean whitewashed hallway to Sayward's cubicle.

Jeniard has finished his rounds except for her.

Jeniard is still quite exasperated with Sayward for having delayed her healing time by reinjuring herself in an attempt to... well, it was never clear exactly what she had tried to do, except that involved her on the ground outside of her house.

Jeniard also has on his assignment list a pre-Gen who was hit by a rolling contraption some quarter mile down the mountain from where Sayward fell, no coincidence.

Jeniard pokes his head in, sees that nothing private is going on, and enters.

Jeniard: Good morning, Sayward. [smiles]

Jeniard's ability to be nice to people who have done really, truly stupid things is much greater than Arat's, which is why he's in charge of Sayward now.

Sayward: Oh, hello Jeniard. I am so pleased to see you!

Sayward isn't sure just how much of a setback she has given herself with her little escapade.

Jeniard: And how are you doing?

Jeniard proceeds to zlin this for himself, after setting the clipboard aside.

Sayward: I'm fine. Ready to get back to work except for this contraption I'm tied up to.

Jeniard: Uh... gotcha.

Jeniard makes a few notations on her file.

Jeniard: You're not giving Sadie any trouble are you?

Jeniard glances at Sayward's guard, who is grinning.

Sayward: Who, me? Never a peep. Just sittin' here makin' rag rugs.

Sayward would rather be making a dam. That is what she came up here for after all. Who has time to be tied down?

Jeniard: Wonderful. Just keep up the good work and you'll be healed in no time.

Jeniard: Don't go messing things up by doing too much too soon OK?

Sayward: Just how long is no time?

Jeniard: Oh, well, call it a month per escape attempt.

Jeniard's mouth quirks up on one corner, though his tone is perfectly serious.

Jeniard is certain that Arat will confine Sayward to bed -- or if necessary, a body cast -- for exactly as long as it takes for her to be out of danger of rebreaking her pelvis on the job.

Sayward: Oh, I promise to be good this time.

Sayward: ~~repentant, determined and aggravated at having to stay still!~~

Jeniard: Hmmm.

Jeniard makes another note.

Sayward: Oh, by the way... [turns to reach under the bed] Ow! Sorry!

Sayward tries again to reach the box she has been keeping under the bed. This time she stops just as the pain threatens.

Sayward: ~~frustrated~~

Jeniard wonders why she keeps that under the bed.

Jeniard picks it up and hands it to her.

Jeniard: Here you go.

Jeniard: Do you have a small table of some sort at home that you could get someone to bring for....

Sayward: Keep it. It's for you actually.

Jeniard: [pauses] For me?

Sayward: For a fellow carver.

Jeniard looks in the box.

Jeniard: Wow! These are great!

Jeniard wonders why Sayward got him such an expensive present.

Sayward: ~~delight~~

Jeniard picks up one of the chisels and examines it. He's no expert of course.

Jeniard only carves wood and stone because Arat would have his laterals for shoestrings if he caught him carving a bar of precious soap.

Jeniard: Well, thank you very much.

Jeniard suspects his hobby will be taking a turn for the serious in an attempt to do the present justice.

Jeniard smiles at Sayward.

Sayward: You have such a feel for stone. I can't do a thing with the stuff but from what I saw of your work I know they will be put to good use.

Sayward: You are welcome. I do appreciate all the help you've given me over the pass few months. Just think of this as a thank you.

Jeniard: Well, I'd best go fill out these forms so I don't get out of here late. You stay in bed now.

Sayward: ~~hopes that she has pleased Jeniard and not offended him~~

Jeniard tucks the box under his arm as he retrieves the clipboard.

Jeniard does not seem to be offended at all.

Sayward had debated the gift for quite a while after the talk she had with Arat.

Sayward: I can't wait to see your first piece.

Jeniard: Trust me, you'll be the first person I show.

Jeniard has nobody else to show them to who can be described as any more enthusiastic than "patently patient".

Sayward smiles brightly. ~~satisfaction~~

Jeniard waves to Sayward and Sadie, and takes his leave.

Sayward picks up another rag strip, blue this time and goes back to being as useful as her current condition will let her. ~~sigh~~
