![]() Episode Five - Halwyn Performs
Our Sectuib, Zoe Farris, worked as a Performance Artist for over 20 years. Sectuib Farris is now in semi retirement, working occasionally at special events, but more involved these days in the running of the Household, as well as helping with Channeling and Support at the Association for Mental Health, Queensland. Along with the First Companion, Sectuib Farris also Sings in a local choir (Brisbane Lesbian and Gay Pride Choir). Recently the choir had a fund raising concert. The concert was well attended - all chairs filled and people standing 5 deep at the back of the hall. The audience was all we could have wish, yelling loudly with appreciation at everything we did. The choir performed as a group, and there were also individual acts. Most of these acts were comical in nature, and were enjoyed by all. To be different Eliza decided to do a serious piece, and so sang the Italian Arietta "Caro Mio Ben". She had worked hard on making a costume that went with the period of the piece and it was judged "best gown of the evening" by the compere. The crowd, ready for another comic piece, laughed when she first walked on, but a silent hush fell over them as she started to sing. Mostly, they were trying to work out what she was saying, not realising that it was in ancient Italian! As well as singing with the Choir, the Sectuib and the First Companion of Halwyn enjoy performing at Karaoke. To make matters worse, they readily admit this fact! They have totally opposite singing styles, the Sectuib being able to cope with most modern music, while the First Companion is limited to songs that sound better if you are a distance away - such as "Danny Boy", "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "If I loved you". She is also fond of most Broadway Musical tunes. As the venue they usual sing at is primarily a Gay venue however, her singing is appreciated in a way that it might not be at a straight Karaoke bar! Everyone who sings has their name put in a hat, and at the end of the night they draw out two names. The first gets a bottle of champaigne, while the second drawn out recieves $50. Secutib Farris wants to know why, as she doesn't drink, she is more often then not awarded with the bottle of alcoholic fizzyness, while she would much rather recieve the cash! The First Companion hesitates in suggesting that, even sober, the Secutib may possibly zlin a tad intoxicated! Stay Safe, Stay Strong Eliza First Companion in Halwyn
