![]() Episode Seven - Mardi Maddness
Well, ok, not the world, but certainly the Sportsman Hotel. Let me start from the beginning. Every Wednesday Hajene Farris (Zoe) and I go up to the Sportsman Hotel for Karaoke. Sometimes other Household members, like Hajene Burr (Wade) or Pauli (our junct rensime) accompany us. Garth even came with us the other week and got up and sang "I'll never fall in love again". It was very cute - he is all of 13 and hasn't changed over yet. Well anyway, March being Mardi Gra month here in Australia the Sportsman Hotel decided to have a Mardi Gra night with prizes for the best "float" (table) and the best male and best female costume as well as the best overall costume. As Wade already had a "Strawberry Daiquiri" outfit I suggested that we all go dressed as cocktails and make a bit bottle of "Mardi Gra Mix" for the table. We made the bottle out of paper mashe around a wire frame. This was very brave of Zoe because she was actually at work while Wade and I did it. It was the first time she has trusted me alone with Wade when I was high field and Wade approaching need. (Wade actually made an attempt for me at one stage there in the past). Of course we behaved ourselves very well. We made a label for the bottle: Mardi Gra Mix Oh you brute! Champagne Product of Sick Minds Wade's costume was all set up, but what were Zoe and I to wear? We decided (oh ok, I decided) that Zoe was going to go as a Black Russian (these are all cocktails remember) and I would go as an Old Fashioned and wear my "Italian Aria" dress. It has a wig I fashioned to go with it. Unfortunately the wig is fine if you are bald, but if you have to put long hair up under it it's too tight. So I decided to put my own hair in ringlets and wear the ringlets down below the wig. As I had been playing silly games with my hair recently (bleaching it and making red and blue stripes) I had to dye my hair black to match the wig. Zoe was rather horrified at the amount of hair dye I managed to get on my hair, me, the sink, the floor - and her if she came close enough! I then spent the next 28 hours in rag curls - more comfortable then you may think. The results were very springy! Zoe's costume was easy. Most of her clothing are black anyway, so I just made her a hat that looked like a Russian roof (you know, those onion shaped things) and she painted on a moustache. Wades costume is amazing and has won him awards before - you have to see the photos! My costume is based on a 17th century gown. We won of course. We won $200 for the best table, I won $50 for the best female costume and Wade won $50 for the best overall costume. Zoe and I also won $40 on the Polka machines and Wade won a bottle of champagne in the draw. All in all a profitable (and fun!) night for Halwyn!
